Hi!

This was taken with my Nikon D5000 with kit lenses. I'm a brand new, still very much green, beginner to the photography world. I've been reading everything I can to better understand HOW I can get the shots I want. I promise I won't go running off to do someones wedding. :sexywink:

Enjoy!

Processing looks fine, exposure looks good, focus is good, subject is attractive, composition is fine...Next step, find a better background.

Is that a tropical night bloomer? It's beautiful!

The green background really makes it pop, but the lilypads are a little distracting.

i have to agree with Bitter, absolutely beautiful capture of that flower. what kind of plant is that anyway? and is that the 18-55 kit, i started out with a d3k and the nikkor kit lens was super fun shooting with.

Oh, I wanted to add that it looks like you chose the perfect aperture to get the perfect DoF on the flower, while still blurring the background.A lot of people tend to go for a large aperture and get very shallow DoF, and only end up with a sliver of the flower in focus. So, good job on that.

All the technical mumbo jumbo has been said so all it got is... Nice job!

I literally Squee'ed when I read your responses. THANK YOU!

I'm honestly unsure what type of flower it is. I was walking around the Inner Harbor and spotted this little sitting around for the town homes. It was fun trying to balance beside the water, keep the camera perfect, AND time the wind right. I wish I could have pushed the lily pads away!

@Jgooz- It is the 18-55 kit. I figure once I really start understanding photography, then I can buy a more specific lenses.

Is that a tropical night bloomer?

Now why the hell would you possibly know that? Being a bitter jeweler I picture you trampling peoples flowers, not admiring their beauty. I just don't get you sometimes...

I didn't know if the lily is in his pond or elsewhere. I have a pond and know my water lilies. Purple/blue is common among tropicals, and rare amongst day bloomers. I think recently they have introduced some blue day bloomers.

You will never get me. So you can stop trying to. :sexywink:
