Hey folks just wanted to say hi and glad places like this are around to learn from.

I finally said enough and went ahead and bought a D3200 Nikon kit and some peripherals to try and learn to take photos.

It's a bit intimidating honestly, reading the manual and a dummies book on the camera.
Need to start reading about what why where when etc etc etc.

For me, this camera captures jaw dropping images right out of the box, I've never owned a real camera.
Being able to take pics like this and not even know what in the world I am doing is encouraging!

This is going to be FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great first post dude! And a NICE HOPPER!!!!! Looks like he's ridin' on somebody's upside down straw hat!

Welcome to TPF! Enjoy the new Nikon! yeah...today's modern, automated d-slr camera is an amazing picture-maker!

Welcome to TPF! Looks like you're off to a good start - don't be afraid to ask questions and to post your images in the gallery section below for critique and comments (C&C) on how to improve.

Seriously dude , let's see you never had a real camera in your life and ummmm let's see you took it out of the box, and ummmm no real training took this picture, which is pretty nice BTW, sorry but I maybe skeptic here, but either I'm totally wrong and I owe you an apology (which I don't think I'm ) or this has been a unpaid advertisement brought to you by Nikon, my money is on the latter. I can't believe this hasn't crossed anyone else's mind, must be to early in the morning.

Kritter... Auto mode or Program Mode will sometimes do amazing things... especially with one lucky shot (No EXIF so can't verify that!). I suspect it is that... not Nikon. No need to to be quite so cynical to a noob.. unless his 2nd and 3rd posts confirm suspicions! ;) lol!

My mom said she made me hokey proof sorry I come by it honestly. I have always had a sense for when it's a snow job, lol, like I said I could be wrong, either he is the rain man of photography or I owe him an apology, but you and I both know it's not the equipment that makes the photog.

I'll admit that my "crap detector" was sounding a loud alarm when I saw this post. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt though. A good camera, an automatic setting that just happened to work out, great lighting conditions, ..... the perfect storm of photographic neophitism. It could happen. Not very likely but it could happen,

I don't subscribe to the Nikon ad hypothesis though. More likely, (forgive me YoBenny) is that the OP does, indeed, have some experience and is stating otherwise to garner more sympathetic reviews of the photo. Damn, it's tough to be such a doubter. I hope I'm wrong. I'd be happy to post a big apology in capital letters if I am.
Regardless of any of that... it's a very good photo for beginner or experienced photographer or anyone else.

I guess I should take the skepticism as a compliment, but I am no smooze for Nikon or anyone else!
Maybe real LUCKY?
This ViewNX2 software they provide spits out all this data that I don't really understand yet, here it is, the only thing I did was focus, I used a ring light and just pushed the button.

Please don't tell that to all of the MWAC PROS out there... without their AUTO and PROGRAM modes, they would be out of business! ;) They are PROOF that equipment makes the PRO, uh.. photographer! lol!

No fellas listen, I really am not trying to be a problem here.
Thats why I said jaw dropping WOW about this thing out of the box and I don't know what in the ^%@$ I'm doing even a little bit.
It took me 5 minutes just to figure out how to put the lens on the camera.
No apologies necessary but yall are kinda makin me feel like this won't be the norm and I was thinking wow this is going to be a lot easier than I thought.

I took that on our back porch, it's the top of a lampshade that we keep on out there and it was on, so I guess that is helping and I didn't realize it?

Really? I don't consider it to be that good of an image.. but hey.... (good for an amateur? Yes! Good overall? not really!)
