I am new to photography, and I am trying to decide between Nikon and canon... Which do you prefer for the best shots?
I'm actually switching to a professional camera from a pocket camera!

Shelby16; both are good lines. There are pros in both camps. Both lines have "beginner" cameras and "pro" cameras. Usually we decide by something other than "best shots" because they will both produce "best shots". Give each a little tryout in the store, and get whichever one feels good.

Canon and Nikon are the 2 best selling DSLR cameras.
I prefer Nikon over Canon.

IMO, the 'feels good' notion is a canard.

I have used many different kinds of hand held cameras over the years: SLR's with and without a motor winder, TLR cameras, medium format cameras, compact and full size DSLR's.

They all had different shapes and control layouts. The 'feel' had nothing to do with image quality. Today's DSLR camera are so similar as far as 'feel' thee really is no significant difference.

One of a human's big advantage over other animals is our manual dexterity.
