Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Does anyone have experience using either AVIF or JPEG XL format, I currently take photos in HEIC format as that is the default on my S23

Will HEIC be super seeded by either of the above formats ?

Regards James

IMO it depends on user support for the transition, manufacturer implementation in devices, and software support. Adobe has had the ability import them https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/supported-file-formats.html for awhile now. MS Word just added JPEGXL in March of this year as a supported format with a downloaded extension. Some of the other graphics programs out there may or may not provide support yet.

The only thing I read about HEIC is it may possibly be subject to charges for use, which is pretty ridiculour in that it’s already replanced JPEG on iPhones and Mac computers and has been used for years, Interestingly I could find no advantage to using either of them over HEIC. It appears to be just more “Apple uses it so wee need to do something different” product.

I did find some converters to try both formats, jpeg xl did require a plug in from windows store to open, but after installed opened fine, avif opened fine by default

But as you say 21, I could not really see any advantages to using either over heic

jpeg xl seems to have very little support on both devices and software, avif seems reasonably supported, but not as much as heic, so I will stick to heic for the near future

And Google converts everything uploaded to .webp.
