Yep. My D600 was used and out of warranty when I bought it. When I submitted it, I didn't have to show proof of purchase or any of that stuff you'd usually need to do for a warranty repair. Braineack's original thread on this was very detailed, helpful and correct on the process.
I just ordered a D600 Condition rated 9 this morning $399.00, someone beat me to the 9+ for a little more money. Will see when I take delivery the actual condition and shutter.Used B&H as I always do and so far the used ratings have been pretty accurate.
The Nikon return site asks you to first type in the serial # to determine if it's eligible for a return. I assume you'd be ineligible if it's already been serviced or it's a gray market body? But in any case, unless your "new" D600 has a really low shutter count, I think it's worth sending it in just to get the service and repairs.
I will take it out right away and click away see what happens. My biggest concern is the rest of functions of the camera and the condition of minor scuffs or scratches but otherwise very Clean.Depends on who is grading the condition, some people can be over optimistic.
The optimal test would be to put it on a tripod (so it's rock steady) and first shoot against a white wall, then against a solid black background. Then enlarge and see if you see what look like little dust specks irregularly scattered around the photo. Frankly, my spotting was so small and inconsistent that I probably wouldn't have bothered with this except the replacement was free.
mine looked like this: then this a year later after the shutter replacement: this is what got my used d600 turned into a New d610.
yeah that is pretty nasty. When I had the D7200 brand new after maybe a 1000 shots give or take I noticed what looked like water liquid stans in the Blue sky always in the same spot it was not dust.I had to wet clean it with some decent pressure to remove it with the swab but then had streaks had to clean the streaks but after that is was spotless and never had a problem after that.My now D7500 two yrs of ownership about 40,000 clicks and still no cleaning required. anyways I am in CT to NY It will be back overnight if I have to use the service.I have plenty of time to get it in.
B&H gave me the serial number I ran it through the service request and it qualify's for shutter replacement got my label printed ready to go.
