Im on a night photography kick, trying to learn as much as possible. I enjoy it so far. One question I have is, when you are shooting in the pitch dark what do you focus on and how? I was thinking of bringing a huge flashlight and seeing if that would help do the trick.

Manual focus, I focus on my subject. Bringing a flash light is an excellent idea.

That's the common trick, but you don't need a huge one, a little LED flashlight (for bicycles) is enough. And much easier to handle ;)

What are you shooting? Landscapes? Of so, than just use your focus scales and focus at infinity.
