Night Photoshoot

Hi all! New to this forum. I Just had a quick question, and wanted to see if anyone could offer some tips. I usually stick to natural daylight photography but a friend asked me to do a shoot in downtown of him. Since I haven't done much night photography (at all) I would like to ask if anyone has some tips for me. I did practice shots in my house with the lights off adjusting the shutter speed and using a tripod. I got very clear shots using 15 second shutter speed and camera being perfectly still on a tripod but I'm wondering if this is the best way to do a shoot of a person. I know that would work well for a cityscape shot but having the person hold a pose for 15 seconds? Thanks! Hopefully dont sound like too much of a n00b o_0

The equipment I am working with is D90, tripod, 35 mm 1.8, 18-105 3.5-5.6 and Sb-600

15 seconds for a person? That is ridiculous unless they are sleeping. Learn and use the flash. Try the Strobist to help, read lots of books on lighting.

Off Camera Flash.

On camera is a possibility (not pop up, but a true flash), but for best results, I think using it off camera would be better.
