So I feel like I have the "make stars show up" technique down, but still looking for an exciting foreground. Sadly I don't live close to any exciting features.

Nice shots, and interesting exposures (this one and the last one).

I copied your exposure info to try sometime, looks like fun.

Thanks. Nothing special for settings. Mostly it was having a nice cold clear night. I did adjust to get a fast enough shutter to not have star blur. I used a bit higher ISO than I would have liked and had to use a somewhat open apreture.

Compromises!

looks good! Foreground is decent too

I like this one for a number of reasons:
  • the single set of tire tracks
  • nice exposure with good detail
  • a tilt-shift feel to it in the background.

Was this a single exposure? I've been doing a bit of layer masking for night photos. The snow on the trees does it for me, I'm excited for summer because it's a better time for milky way photos, but a nice snowy scene looks great with the stars above.

I like the foreground, the single tire tracks speak to me. It is sometimes a lonely world out there.
