NIKKPR 50mm 1.8 Lens

Recently I purchased a NIKKOR 50mm 1.8 Lens.My question is that there is a lock that keeps the fstop ring from turning. I think it locks at f22.If I release the lock and move the ring from the locked position I am unable to take a photo.HELP PLEASE.

With newer cameras you need to keep the aperture ring locked. You set your aperture with the camera's settings, not with the lens's.

did you buy it new? If so, it comes with a manual that describes this issue.
