Nikon 10 -20mm f/4.5 - 5.6 taking dark pictures.

I just bought the Nikon 10 -20mm f/4.5 - 5.6 for my D5600. Every time I take a picture taking on auto all pictures are really dark. If I use my other Nikon lenses they are fine. This is the 2nd Nikon 10 -20mm f/4.5 - 5.6 I bought as I returned the first one. Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you set things manually? Can you get a good exposure by adjusting the ISO, shutter speed, f-stop?

There are supposed to be compatibility charts for lens/body combos, maybe check the Nikon website?
