Nikon 105mm Works Well as a Telephoto lens?

I may be buying this soon, so will this work well as a good low light telephoto?

Because the 200mm lens will make a distance object appear to be closer than the 105mm.

200 would allow you more comfortable working distance from thing you don't want to disturb, like butterflies, bees and dinosaurs.

If your looking at the AF DC-NIKKOR 105mm f/2D, it will perform nicely in low light and the De-focus Control function is sweet. It's a great portrait lens.
