Please help! Needing a fast zoom lens for my Nikon D7000, I've come down to two choices. Nikon 80-200 2.8 & sigma 70-200 OS. I do mostly handheld shots so sigma with OS seems to be the obvious choice but I've read so many great reviews on the Nikon 80-200 that I'm having second thoughts. Is the Nikon lens worth giving up the OS for? Which one would you choose? Btw, I cannot afford the Nikon 70-200 vr so please don't recommend it.

You can probably find a Nikon 70-200 VR1 used for about the same price as a Sigma 70-200 OS new since the Sigma is going for around $1,400. I've seen The VR1 go for that amount pretty consistently on Ebay.

Destin, thank you for your reply. Lately though, VR I's end up close to $1700's, so out of my reach. I'll keep looking - thanks again.

In order of best to un-best:

Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VRI

Nikkor 80-200 f2.8

Third-party glass.

Don't get too hung up on the VR/OS thing. You only need 1/200 of a seocndo for good, sharp, hand-held shots, and at f2.8, that's not usually too tough to achieve.

A few vr1s have sold on ebay lately for $1400 or less. In the past they were selling as low as 1200.I'd suggest the af-s version of the 80-200mm, they sell for around $900 on ebay.

Thanks for a great advice!

Djacob: Really? I'll keep on searching then. Thank you for the info!
