Hello, I acquired a Nikon D300 body for a couple of bucks knowing it had issues. Hopefully someone can advise me on how to repair it.
All I know is that the camera was dropped. A Nikon AF-S 18-200 F3.5-5.6 G ED lens was attached when it was dropped and a SB-900 flash. Both of which have issues too.
I put a fully charged battery in. It turns on and I get an ERR on the top LCD screen and the mirror is in the up position.
It does fire when I press the shutter release but it does not take any picture. The mirror just flips down and back up.
I can view the entire menu and all of the other camera function's and settings so far.
hope someone can help me. Thanks.

Sometimes you win...Hoping you blew no more than a couple of bucks.

$20 for the camera, lens and Flash. Flash does work so it was not a total waste if I can't repair the camera.

Problem with broken toys is the understandably high diagnosis charge by techs. You did get an OK speedlight cheap...

Try setting the open shutter time to 10 seconds. Take the lens off and look inside when you hit the shutter button. You should be able to see the sensor for 10 seconds ... or a wrecked shutter under the mirror. If the shutter opens and closes properly, you might have a chance at getting it to work.

I cannot set any shutter speeds or aperture while it is flashing ERR. But I can press the shutter and it does take a picture. The shutter does open and I do get a partial picture. Only see the bottom 5th of the picture. Then the mirror goes back up and stays. So the sensor and shutter are working.
