HI Everyone!

I just got a Nikon D5100 & Sigma 17-70 Macro Lens.

Does anyone know why the aperture wont go below 4.0?

I'm trying to get a shallower Depth Of Field.

This is the best I was able to get

Thanks for your help!

Check the manual that came with that lens. Not all macro zooms/zooms will open to widest aperture at the longest end. At 70 MM you may be limited to f4 by design of the lens.

it's a "Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens"

Yep. And what that MEANS, as jolieteddie pointed out, is that it depends on your focal length as to the widesst aperture you can get out of that lens. At 17mm, you can get f2.8; at 70mm, the widest it'll go is f4.
The closer you get to 70mm, the narrower your aperture will be from the f2.8 at 17mm.

Quoted for truth!

I prefer the sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro. It wont autofocus on yours or my D5100 but the quality and aperture make it worth it IMO.
