Is there a guide or something that describes the features of the different families of Nikon Lenses?

Like an Ai-S lense... is there something that would help me decide if I want that, in favor of a D-Type lense?

I'm not entirely convinced to put a lot of stock in KR's information. Often you have to read between the lines.

For Nikon stuff, Thom Hogan is quite reliable.
