I dropped :-x:-x:-x My d40 w the kit 18-55 lens attached. The lens ring that attaches the camera to the body cracked and part of it fell off.
the lens looks ok but it won't focus.
The only other lens I have is a Nikon 70-300. It will AF but the camera won't fire.

advice? Is it worth trying to get either repaired.

Cheaper to buy another camera.

I thought so but figured I'd ask anyway.
i found the lens ring on eBay for $10 and tutorials on youtube. I'll try to fix it myself.

You're talking about the mount?

Pretty sure you'd need to recalibrate the AF.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade.

A refurbished Nikon 18-55 is ~$80.. It's better to just buy a new one.

I think he means the body but still at least a d40
Isn't expensive.

Sorry, I miss read and thought the issue was with the body.

Maybe its both..

A used D40 is ~$160 (body only)...

Well it wouldn't hurt to contact Nikon to give you a free estimate, but likely, you're going to be better off replacing the camera. Good luck with it.
