Nikon user - Polarizer's

Hey guys.. im new here and was hoping for some advice when choosing a Circular Polarizer for my Nikon D3000 as im fairly unfamiliar with parts and etc

Just comments or links advice or anything would be good

You don't purchase a CPL based on the camera but rather on the specific lens. Lenses have different front element diameters and the filter has to be the same diameter to crew onto the front of the lens. Sometimes the filter diameter is printed on the lens, sometimes you have to hunt for it. Places like B&H Photo Video and Adorama normally list the filter diameter on the catalog page with the lens specifications.

Don't purchase one of the very inexpensive filters or it will affect the quality of your image. Tiffen, Hoya, Singh-Ray, B&W would be my preferred brands. Probably a couple of others I can't think of right now.

You can use a CPL with any DSLR.


I'd suggest that you make sure that the front element of your lens does not rotate during focusing/zooming or using a polarizer is incredibly annoying.

I remember reading (I believe it was on this wonderful site) that linear polarizers create issues with metering due to the direct light into the mirror and circular polarizers correct that by transitioning polarization equally?
