No budget, new Nikon...go!

You guys are giving me a lot to think about! Lol. In thinking about the body, I would not use the video, and if the difference is really so minor, perhaps just getting new glass would be the way to go. I am definitely getting the 70-200 2.8 VR, or perhaps the Sigma version as I like Sigma as well and they are a tad cheaper. I want to build up my studio set up as well, perhaps buy another SB-600 so that I can have two in the studio. And a beauty dish as well. Lol. So many things to buy.

I know I hear ya on the buying of things. I would definately do unforgivable things for that lens but anyways enough about that. I'll have mine one day. I would go to the store and just ask opinions, like which is better and is it worth it type thing. Go to multiple stores ofcourse.

When I say studio...what I really mean is the third bedroom in my apartment with a garment rack for a backdrop stand. Haha.

But what does the D7000 body offer that the D80 does not? I guess that is why I say not worth the upgrade.
A few more pixels? certainly not 1200 bux worth! I think if SHE (haha) spends 1200 on the D7000 she is not going to see a difference in her photos.
If the body is holding her back, she needs to go full frame.

Ok there is a lot of confusion in this thread now. The D300, D300s, D7000 will use and work with all the DX glass and FX glass. The D700 will work with FX glass.

I really want to document this football career though I think it would be amazing. But yeah the upgrade I think would be worth it even though the lens should be first.

Same with me though I need that lens too and then the body may come one day as well, no shame inw aiting and post poning things like that it will be worth it in the end for sure.

Correct the d700 will go from 12 megapixel to 6 with a dx lens.

The new D7k does not have a magnesium body it has a magnesium top and back cover, that's it, the rest is plastic.

The D80 is a fine camera. I started off my digital revolution with the D80. I would suggest to upgrade your lens arsenal first by slowly introducing FX lenses. Sell off a DX lens to help finance the FX replacement. You don't necessarily need a tit-for-tat equivalent lens. I've only bought two... no wait, three lenses since I went full frame. They also work great on the D300 cropped sensor.

Alright then, PARTIAL magnesium-alloy body, and tougher weather-sealing than the D80.

Sneaky Nikon... Why would they only go half-way on the metal body? Seems silly to me...

With the DX auto detect turned off in the D700 you won't loose all that many pixels.
