suppose not all photos have to mean much or be strong some can just exist for the sake of it.

I get the impression that the building is 'looking' into the margin.
I would have framed this with the building at the other end of the balancing space.

Yes. True that.
I also felt like the foot prints lead to the base of the stairs going left to right, and then the stairs lead back into the photo from right to left.
I guess it's up to the viewer which effect is stronger.

I suppose pulling back would have helped some. I was looking at the layering in the photo - sand, bank, grass, and sky - and how it lined up with the sections of the structure. I felt like a wider view would detract from that, but I think I have some wider shots that I could play with.
