NOOB needing guidence...

Ok, not sure if I am posting in the right section but, I am new to this forum & still in the beginning stages of photography. I have so many questions I don't know what to ask first...I would really like to get some help in choosing the best lens for my camera & the subject I am shooting. What are the most important things to know besides the Rule of Thirds??? Do I need to invest in a flash?? Oh, my list goes on & on... All the guidence in the right direction I can get is greatly appreciated!!!
