Let me preface by saying I'm no photographer. I do like the look of spotlight lamps though and I was thinking of buying one for my living room like those:

It turns out most of those are pretty expensive. I could probably get a real lighting kit for much cheaper. Are studio lights suitable for the living room in place of a regular floor lamp? Do they use any kind of special bulbs or can I just buy regular halogen bulbs?

I'm looking for something like this maybe. It's like only 200$ and I get 3 lights!

I was thinking of replacing the bulbs with some lower wattage halogen bulbs like 40-50W.
