What was the lens and settings for this picture?

Honestly it does not do much for me and I can see how I would do it different.
I am not trying to be mean or anything, just giving my two cents on how I believe the picture could be better.

Your subject are the boats, so increase your aperture, get that home blurred out.

Lower angle, stepping away, zoom lens on the boats. As such, the very nice stone wall will appear to be bigger and closer to the boats.

I stayed in Ogunguit last year. Great place! I think I recognize that guest house too.

I don't think you are being mean Timoris. I asked for comments and appreciate yours even if I do not agree with all of them.

This is an old picture of mine taken with my Coolpix 990 at 20mm f/5.8 1/220 ISO100.
There was no way to get any lower and the angle is quite high.

For those that know Ogunquit, this is Perkins Cove.

With a Coolpix, especially at a wide angle setting, the depth of field will be considerable, so there was no chance of blurring the background with this framing. However, I agree with Timoris that the background is not helpful here. With the camera you had with you, the best shot imo would have been at a telephoto setting to get the first boat against the wall, with parts of the other boats of course, and more of the first boat's reflection. I see you have a lot more equipment available now, so if you go back you will have many more options.

Thanks Ken. I go there often enough that I will certainly have the opportunity to try this shot again with better equipment so I will take all these suggestions and try them.

I had a picnic with my family on that exact green in the background and even worked the bridge for those passing boats a couple times. Great place. I have a few pics of similar.

I think the picture doesnt work as well in BW as in color. Theres not enough texture or interesting lighting for my eyes to feast on.
