While unothodox, I do think your crop saved the photo. Her hair is fried, fried, fried, and I think you did the image justice by cropping most of it out.

I like the original too. On the new crop I would crop out the piece of her right ear that is showing.

I prefer the original too. Someone said they wanted to see her whole head in the frame, but I think it's pretty obvious that that was not the aim. I love the original crop. Her whole head not being in the frame is what makes it so attention grabbing.

There really are a few traditionalists out there!

this is pretty good. it would be nice if there was a bit of fill light on the left side of her face and her hair in the first shot.
the other shots, i think you've overdone with perspective by putting camera so high above her.

seeing that this is a pretty much a beauty shot and having recently started studying photos in trendy fashion mags, i have three points:

1. from what i've seen in the magazines, it seems that the general concensus in beauty and fashion shots is that cropping forehead looks good but cropping chin doesn't...
2. camera level is almost always lower than chin. for headshots, they put camera at chest level. the more body you include in the frame the lower camera level is (about knee level for full body)
3. all photos for single pages are framed vertically. double page photos are horizontal. there are mostly single page shots so vertical is way more common.

anyway, i am mostly ranting since you have all probably noticed this before.

Thanks Boggs. All three photos are the exact same shot. Just different crops of the same photo.
