So I have a problem. I have 1500$ dollars and I was thinking of getting a d7000. Well I was also thinking of trying to get better with indoor portraits. I used to use cheap lights from home depot. For 1500$ I could get a strobe kit and I was also thinking of buying some lighting books. I dont need a d7000 but I wanted a new toy. I do need the strobes if I want to take up indoor portraits but its not as fun as a d7000.
Thats the kit I wanted to get. ITs the strongest they have the rest were 150w/s

Easy....

If you want to do indoor portraits buy the lighting kit.

Or if you want a new toy buy the D7000.

Just a thought, if you go with the lighting kit you get to use the camera you have in a new way... Not exactly a new toy but sort of.

But you cant take lighting kit everywhere.

My vote is for the toy.....my only complaint is I don't have enough time to use it (unfortunately, I DON'T take it everywhere).

What are you shooting with now? Unless your camera is unusable I'd go for the strobes. I just got a new camera and while yes it's nice to have something decent, I wish I could get other equipment still. An upgrade was pretty necessary though, my camera was 6 years old and very limiting.

I'm taking my D7000 on a cross country motorcycle ride, its been a fun toy thus far too.

I currently own a d5000 and I was driven away from indoor portraits due to constant blurring. Now that I have realized how shutter speed does not affect strobes my portraits will always come out clearer and less blurred. The rest I will spend on books.

But you cant take lighting kit everywhere.

I use my SB600's and two silver umbrellas as my portable lighting kit. So technically I can take it anywhere :D

If you get lights, you could do artistic nudes with your wife

I think a lighting kit would be just as much fun as a new body to be honest and I use a 20d. That would be my choice given the two, but next time I have $1500 to blow on photography equipment it will be for the 24-70 f/2.8.
