Last weekend, I visited the Joliet Prison. This prison operational from 1858 to 2002. The prison was featured in The Blues Brothers as well as the Prison Break television series. Here are some of my favorite photographs from my visit:

Thanks for looking...

B&W does justice to the decay and remorse of prison life.
As these self guided tours?
Did you see the section they fixed up for prison break?

Thanks Michael...this was a photography tour that's offered twice per month. The tour is limited to 20 people for a 4 hours period. Tripods are permitted.

I didn't see the section from Prison Break...and I explored all areas open to the photography tour.

I agree the BW edit definitely works well with this type. I remember seeing Blues Brothers when it first came out a long, long time ago :)

Intimidating looking place. Don't fancy having been in there in it's hay day.

Thanks Dean...I remember seeing it back then as well.

The place certainly makes one appreciate one's freedom!

great series!

Wow...well, I must say that a few of these I think are extraordinary images. This would include #1 , #3 (obviously!), #8 and #11. Besides my bias to black and white, and knowing that John Balushi did time in Joilet, love the photos. Very nicely done stuff.

Thanks Charlie...most of the subject matter seemed to call for B&W conversions!
