What's new

OMG OMG OMG! just got a 50mm f 1.8...

I remember when I first got into photography in high school (all the darkroom chemicals and bad, scratchy b&w photos that went into the yearbook) using the Pentax K1000 and 50mm 2.0 lens.

Took it for granted then, would LOVE to have one now! (still have the k1000 with the lens, but have no interest in going back to film).

btw, that was a lifetime ago with a marriage and no fun money in between! Didn't get back into it until last year, but feel fortunate I had the basics down. All you could do with the k1000 was manual - that's ALL I do now. Have never used any other modes unless playing, but even then feel like I'm cheating, so I do everything in manual).

Wow! What a difference indoors lowlight compared to my kit 18-55mm... Im so impressed at 1600 iso with the blinds closed during the day in Av the camera will shoot over 1/1000...

I'm sure most of you are thinking "calm down noob," but I am so stoked!!!

Oh and...

I got the same lens just last week. It is definitely pretty sweet. :)

Enjoy!

Heres the comparison shots
shutter 1/50
iso 800
Pic 1:f 5.6
Pic 2: f 1.8

No flash

the only thing different is the lens, tripod never moved

Is this the same lens different aperture...or different lens different aperture?
What are we comparing?

Different the first is the 18-55mm at 50mm focal length with its smallest f of 5.6 and the 50mm at f 1.8

Just for fun..

So if you wanted to compare the glass...wouldn't want to manipulate fewer variables? Your comparison just illustrates different exposures, no?

According to the exif both images was taken with the 50 1.8...

Oh... i converted the wrong photo my bad I'll fix that tomorrow

I'm really sorry guys... to much time staring at pic after pic after pic.

The 2 i wanted to compare are both at 5.6.

No problem. We all make mistakes...

I had the same thing. I used to love using k1000. As much as i hate film, i used to love the camera. Back in highschool I actaully had some amazing shots, if only i could find them or at least get the negatives to get them reproduced. Got me remenising. Interestengly enough im 21, how old are you? Im just curious for how many years did highschools use these cameras now!!!

I am using my canon 20d and each time, I use to get much better results than I have had with it before. One thing I noticed about it is that it works really well in low light too. I made several of my photos in just 2 days and I wanted to share few here, but I don't really know how to do so. Can you guys please help me suggest what should I do to attach my photos with my posts?
