Online photography workshops?

Hi everyone. So as I continue to learn some of the photography basics, I came across with some online workshops from SLR Lounge (please delete if not proper to put names), mainly the photography 101 and lightning 101 ones. So far, I have been learning from youtube videos and experimenting with my camera. In my country, I have not see many live workshops that I could attend, so options on that end are limited.

Guess question here is what method I could use to keep learning, other than experimentation? Are those online workshops really worth investing in? They are a little pricey (over $100), so not sufe if it would really worth the money. I bought an online book and it really helped me to understand some basic concepts and better use of Lightroom tools, so maybe those online ones are not bad.

I'd look at your local community college for courses they offer, that was where I took my first classes. You get the help of a professional photographer that wants to see you do your best.

Does Costa Rica have community colleges?

Yes, we do have but I believe none of them have photography. I know that there are some private colleges that occasionally offers summer photography lessons, but that's about it. From time to time there are private workshops but very few across the year.

That's kind of rude.

Not really considering that the concept of a Community College as we know it was an American creation in 1901. The rest of the world doesn't always model themselves after us just because we invent something.

Lynda.com, kelbyone.com have both been useful to me. Lynda.com was good for learning how to use my editing software and also for specifics about my camera model. Both sites have free trial periods.

I don't know who gryph is, but the question sounded like it was condescending to the educational systems of other countries to me. It could have been phrased with more tact.

What do you know of the education systems in other countries? Are you aware that in most of western Europe for example that a college degree only takes 3 years vs the minimum of 4 in the US. They don't believe in the general bachelor of arts concept. You begin your education in a declared major and all classes are geared toward that major.

In Malaysia the "community college" is a vocational and technical skill center of learning.

There is a whole big wide world out there that is different than here in the US. Perhaps it is your perception of things that a bit condescending to the ways of the wider world.
