Opinions?

I think I am getting better. My problem so far (in my opinion) is not having good backgrounds.

I like dark(er), dramatic photos as I'm sure you'll gather.

What I am using is constant lights, one or two 4 florescent bulb soft boxes. I need to either get radio triggers for the cannon flashes I have or get Nikon flashes. Post processing is done in pixlr (I know, I need to invest in PS or LR). Usually all I do is sharpen, adjust color/contrast and enhance vignetting.

What strikes me about most of these is that the lighting is harsh and lacking diffusion. Move your lights closer to the subject and drop your output to get better wrap and reduce the specularity.

I would agree...less specularity, more diffusion, more fill...you can still have drama, but the lights just look "bare", which does not really work that well with firearms. I learned shotgunning on an old Remington like that one! A very early one, serial number under 2000.

I like the composition but cant give advise on flash, it all looked pretty good to me, particularly the last shot

If you're already using a soft box that should be ample diffusion. If the light is still hard you've placed it too far away from the subject.

I'm gonna try pushing them closer. Plan on trying a few things today.

I wouldn't disagree with what was said above, except to say I really like #1 and #4.
As someone who has used a firearm on the job for it's intended purpose... Stark or edgy, or hard.. Fits.. I can't articulate it better than that.. Good job!!
