Lol. Sorry kris just trying to find new and creative ways to tell you that your photos are awesome! I wish I had the time to get out and get me some birds. I miss it.

Well, obviously these are all great, but I'm going to pick #4 because I might actually have a hope of capturing something like it some day.

Very nice! What f/stop and shutter speed do you usually find gives you the best results for flying birds?

I hate to be critical, but the fish doesn't look too happy in the first shot ... and in one of your shots the woodpecker appears upside down.

(You seem to have mastered the 7D. Good damn job.)

Thanks! It must be tough with Jr running around. Gotta try to make the time once in awhile though!

Wow, great osprey shots!
WOW AGAIN.
Very nice flight photos. Does indeed look like an immature Red-winged Blackbird.
Thanks! @Donde, I don't think I have seen one with so much white before.

It depends on many things, but for an absolute minimum 1/1000th. I try to shoot at 1/1600th for any diving shots and I have found the closer they get, the higher you need the shutter speed. These were at 1/2500th because the Osprey was close and turning and banking. As far as the F stop, you want to shoot as wide open as you can. These were at F4.5, but I was shooting with my friends 500 F4 trying to get used to it for when mine arrives this week. The Tamron 150-600 I always shot at F8 because it was noticeably sharper there. Also the Osprey was back lit so I cranked up my EC to 1-2/3 because it would have been a black blob otherwise..

Thanks for your honest critique. I will try to get a happier looking fish next time. I guess I must have accidentally rotated the other bird 180 degrees when I was processing... :)

It's been a quick learning curve with the 7DM2. My fingers aren't robotic yet like they were with the Nikon. It's really bad if I try to use the shutter on the battery grip since it is about 1/2" different than they are on Nikons.. I still have to think a little too much just changing shutter and aperture, but I will get there. The next challenge will be throwing the 8.5 pound lens around. Quite a bit different than a 3 or 4 pounder, lol..

Very nice! You make it seem way to easy.

nice BIF with FISH shots !

I'm just guessing here but i bet that fish was thrilled for at least a second or two when he realized he could fly :biggrin-93:
