Padlock files question

Hi all.

I recently bought a 5d and when I put the files on my computer there is a padlock sign on the files. A google search indicates this is something to do with read/write access. I can access and process the files but the properties do indicate that there is stuff ticked that normally are not ticked on files from my other cameras. I have a few Canon dslrs and none of the others files act like this. Has anyone any idea why the files are different from the 5d?

Its jpegs and raw. The security settings have an access permission tab. In this section all but the bottom tab "special permission" are ticked in black on the 5d files. These normally are ticked but its a lighter grey tone.

I am using widows 7 64bit and its only if I open a folder in windows to see the file tabs. It probably makes no difference but is different than any other files from other cameras.

The files might have read only protection. Try this, make a few copies of your file (3-5) will do; try to modify, open, delete them to see what level of security they might have. Also, check your media security settings to make sure it is not enabled(if any). Lastly check the manual of your Canon, I know my DSLR has a write protection feature so that you will not erase your files.

Thanks. If I copy them they don't have the padlock. I can delete them with the padlock. They seem to just act the same as any files but have a padlock. It probably doesn't matter. 5d files can be protected individually in camera. I tried camera reset, re-formatting the cared and a different card. i suppose it's not really a problem

Where are you copying them to and what are you using to copy them? Windows 7 assigns special permissions to files copied into protected locations to prevent you from executing and causing problems. It will also flag with the lock icon any file that is owned exclusively by the user but copied into a public location.

I.e. in C:\program files\ if there is a file or folder which has your user account with full control but doesn't have a system account associated with it it'll have the padlock icon. But the same doesn't happen if that file is in your Documents folder since you don't expect any other account to have access to your Documents folder. Basically the icon comes up when there's a discrepancy between the public and private nature of a file.

Now the security permissions of the file being ticked in black instead of grey means that the permissions of the file are set explicitly and not inherited from the folder in which they are stored.

So how are you getting the files from the camera to the computer?
What folder are you putting the files into?
Have you tried putting them using the same method into a different folder?
