Wow, you really went to a lot of trouble osirus, thank you. I will probably be picking one of these up shortly.

I myself haven't found the ideal bag. At first I was hoping to have one that can carry my laptop as well so I don't have to carry different bags as carry-ons for air travel. I also need side access to the gears.

I ended up with a Lowpro 350: Lowepro - Fastpack 350

First of all, this bag's camera compartment is too big for my needs while the accessories compartment is a little too small. I have a D700, one telephoto and 3 short lens. What happens is, when I configure it to be side accessible, the lens compartments are way too deep. I have to stuff socks into the compartments so that the lens don't bounce around in the bag.

The laptop compartment is rated for a 17" laptop, but I think it's only good for 15". That said, if you add in the laptop's power adapter, mouse and other accessories, plus the camera's accessories, there really isn't enough room. All-in-all, the bag's space management didn't work for me.

Also, by the time I load the bag with both my camera and laptop gears, it's REALLY heavy. I am considering getting foldable trolley to drag it on for air travel. It's a hassle.

So right now, I am still using my old single sling shoulder camera bag for photo outings. It hurts my shoulder, but it's a lot more compact and flexible. When I travel, I will use the big guy.
Sorry I don't have a recommendation for you. It depends on how you are going to use it and what kind of gears you will be putting in it.

Finding a bag that is big enough but not too big seems to be the difficulty. I was enticed by the Lowepro's easy access design as well. As for use and what I would like to put in it. I like to take nature shots as well as photograph family outings so ideally I would like something relatively small that gives me access to the camera quickly when I need it. My foreseeable goals are to get a good flash (possibly an SB-700), and to add a good macro and good wide angle lens too my collection. It's a short list but it will take me awhile to get it all as I will need to save my pennies.

My Lowepro CompuDaypack had a small spacer attached to the bottom of the computer compartment with Velcro. Took that out and my laptop fit a lot better. You might want to check for one in yours too. :)

You guys know this thread is 2 months old right?

Thanks for the replies though. It may just be my vanity but the X million Dollar Home bags look too much like purses to me. I built my own medium sized bag but I am quickly outgrowing it. I'll most likely pick up one of those Amazon bags in the very near future.
