Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Ever since I've been home, I feel like my photos aren't as good as they were over the summer. What do you think of them? I would appreciate some C&C

These look to me like the work of someone trying too hard to be artistic. What is your thought process behind each image, and what was your intent?

I have been trying to give my photos a little more meaning, but maybe in the wrong way.

1. Showing remains of a group of people that probably hung out there. Kind of like remains of a forgotten memory
2. .....
3. I was trying to show a calm rainy afternoon. Showing kind of a sense of quietness
4. This is a photo from the elementary school that I went to being demolished. I tried to show blackness creeping out from the back of the room

Number 4 might be a good candidate for B&W conversion. I personally like that shot.

1 seems a bit underexposed and the subject is just kind of random and boring.
2 just looks like a building kind of boring. Nice sky though but maybe different angle/time of day.
3 centered photo the eyes lead down the stairs but there is really nothing that my eye is lead to that catches my attention.
4 not bad but kind of far away and just shows too much of the scene making it more snap shotty. Maybe a better angle or emphasizing on one particular thing there.

Just keep practicing and you'll get better. Good luck to you!

Okay, I understand where you were trying to go... I think though you were trying too hard. If you look at #1, it's a single, empty can. There's no indication of a group of people, and nothing to indicate that anyone was in a particular mood. #2 really doesn't do anything for me. #3 came close, but your use of the columns makes me want to see something between them. #4 was a good concept, but I think it would have worked much better at night. The problem is that the bright sky behind tends to grab the eye and take it away from the darker area.

ask yourself... would you hang these on your wall and why,

I think it's cool that you are practicing your shots, and trying to strengthen your "eye".

Take the can for instance. Go back to the can, and really work with it. Shoot high, shoot low, shoot from the side. Really walk around that can. Take the can to different locations, and repeat the above. Put the can in different situations, and different light, and repeat the above. (Actually this might make for a really cool series, but I digress!)

It's not so much what you will be learning about the can. It's what you will learn about angles, and light, backgrounds, bokeh, and sharpness.

Have fun with your project, because it IS a fun project!

It's good you already have an idea before you shoot. I think as you learn more about the camera's dynamic range and light, you're shots will become better.

Of all the shots, #3 is the only one I picked up on what you were trying to communicate, but I think the composition is awkard. Perhaps crop out the open space outside of the columns so there is as much dark as there is light and get rid of the lightposts. Even still, it just isn't quite moody enough. I think there is too much sky... the image is too bright. The interest to me is the decreasing degrees of contrast in the trees from front to back. Focus more on that compositionally. I think overall, you're including too much in your images.

Thanks I'll keep all this in mind when I'm taking photos. I want to move forward in photography because I'd love for it to be my career. It seems like I've exhausted all the photo taking opportunities in my city although I know that isn't true. I guess im in a bit of a slump, I'll post back next week with some better results.

I like the question about wether id hang them on my wall

1 I guess not, i dont like the washed out sky
2 its okay, maybe
3 Yes, i think it portrays a calm scene on a rainy day
4 probably, I love urban decay and this is my old elementary school

1) would have been better (as your train of thought) to have a group walking away that was blurred out I think.
2) When I see something like this I like it dead center, this one leans a little to the right.
3) I could see this on a wall as well. I think it would be a really good scene if you had a nice car parked center of the columns.
4) I don't get why people like this one, no offence. Then again I did do demolition when I was younger so maybe I am just sick of looking at broken buildings lol
