pentaprisim vs pentamirror .. and ????

ok ... so you read the title. i have a canon 30d (pentaprisim viewfinder). and im in a contest where i might win a 1st:5d mkii 2nd:t1i 3rd: xsi 4th:g10 .... and im going to place in the top 3. im in 1st now to win a 5d, but if i dont im stuck with a rebel t1i or xsi. the bodys of the rebels are small and light. and they have a pentamirror viewfinder. slower fps. but newer processors with higher resolution sensors. to me the t1i is garbage(picture quality), but i do like the xsi. now would the xsi be better than my 30d? other than the pentaprisim/mag body/fps? cause i love the digital magnification in the canon live view, its great for manual focusing. but then, i was debating about the new nikon d5000. love the 11af-points that the d5000 uses(same as d90). the autofocus motor not being in the body isnt a big deal to me. but i was thinkin about hopping over to nikon and selling the camera i win and my equip i have now (if i dont win the 5d, then im sticking to canon) and getting the d5000. then again, the d5000 has pentamirror, no af motor ... but other than that .... it looks bad a$$!!!! what you think?

You can't seriously be telling me that your decision on a camera rides on if it has a pentamirror or a pentaprism? The difference in light through the viewfinder is a few percent and it has zero impact on the final image.

no i just dont know if i dont win the 5d if keeping the 30d and a xsi/t1i is worth while when i like the d5000 .... but then id have to sell my stuff. id get a lot of cash for the cams/lenses and i dont see a need to spend the xtra cash on the d90 because all the lenses id want for the d5000 have the motor built in, except the 50 1.8, id have to dish out the xtra cash for the 1.4 but then again i might just buy a tamron 90mm macro ..... i work in retail so its like i cant be happy with what i have, worst part about working in a camera store

You're trashing the T1i while praising the D5000???? I'm a Nikon guy and even I'd take the Canon over that Nikon. And where do you work that gives away $2700 cameras for a sales contest?

lol ive been yelled at already for this post. i havnt played with the d5000 yet. compared to the xsi the t1i to me just felt cheaper and the vid sucks on it. canons point and shoots vid is almost as good as the t1i haha. if the d5000 can autofocus better than the t1i ... which im sure it will ... then when recording video the d5000 will be better on the vid aspect. but i like the 4x digital magnifier in live view on the nikons, and with that swivel screen it might be awsome to shoot with.

You do realize that none (nadda, zip, zilch) of the current crop of DSLR's that shoot video actually focus while shooting - right? So the AF will have nothing to do with how your video turns out on the T1i or the D5000. They'll suck equally.

You do realize that the D5000 LCD is only 2.5" vs. the XSi and T1i having a 3" LCD. So that 4x digital zoom is going to be less effective on the smaller screen. And even though it's only a 1/2 inch difference diagonally, it's a big difference. My response to the swivel screen: useless. The contrast AF system with Nikon's live view is very slow and in my experience, not too accurate. Needless to say, I almost never use it (and I like to use my LCD for shot info). If it's something you will use and you can tolerate the AF system, it may be the tipping point.

I don't hate the camera itself, but I find the idea of adding fluff to generate sales to be disheartening. I really love Nikon cameras, but I hope they don't continue to appeal to the masses more than the dedicated shooters who use their cameras. The D90 was a huge step in Nikon bringing power to the average shooter and I just think it would be a shame if this was the last step. I know I don't need a gold edition, a swivel screen, 1080p video, or Ashton Kutcher's endorsement to enjoy my camera more.

well good sir. you are wrong. the t1i can autofocus while recording video. ive done it myself. the same way you can use "live" autofocus on the xs/xsi/t1i/50d you can see the camera focus .... its controlled through the custom functions. and i can care less about the video. its lame. when you use the live focus while recording vid with the t1i, you can see the camera changing the exposure and HEAR the kit lens screaming to focus really really loud and its slow. the autofocus on the d90 in live view is just like a point and shoot. didnt think to check how it is with the video. probably cause i didnt care lol
