Highlights are slightly blown and the images are a bit noisy, just being picky

Is Gimp your only editing option ?

I'm not familiar with Canon software but Olympus has a noise filter that works quite well without having to resort to Noiseware, etc..

Nice shots.
I'm addicted to these little cuties myself. They perch more and for longer periods that most people realize. They travel and perch among four trees and the clothes line, in our yard. I've gotten pretty good at going out and looking in the tree, and finding one sitting there, cleaning and scratching. I'm going to miss them over the winter...........
