Percocet

I don't agree with the following but found it when looking up the pain medication I was given after my recent surgery, vicodin.

On June 30, 2009, a the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel voted by a narrow margin to advise the FDA to remove Vicodin and another painkiller, Percocet, from the market because of "a high likelihood of overdose from prescription narcotics and acetaminophen products". The panel cited concerns of liver damage from their acetaminophen component, which is also the main ingredient in commonly-used nonprescription drugs such as Tylenol.[2] Each year, acetaminophen overdose is linked to about 400 deaths and 42,000 hospitalizations.[3]

Hey 3 years ago I could handle them 4-6 or more pills a day and 3 years later I am a bit concerned. It is not me conciously that wants them and that is the problem. At this point If I wait too long to take one I feel like the whole world is crashing down around me and I have a sickness like the flu with no temperature. I have ingested alot of things into my body oer my 38 years and this is the only thing that has ever taken hold of me in this way.

As a physical therapist with some experience in pain management, I'd recommend trying to find a pain management specialist that utilizes a team approach. MD, PT, OT, psychologist. There are things that can help all that you are describing. Rather than staying with the same pain medication ad nauseum, these days it's recommended that there is a rotation between medications. Some medications are better if taken at the onset of pain, to head it off at the pass. If those medications are taken after waiting too long, they can't stop the build up of pain. Other medications are better when the pain has gotten too severe. All medications need to be stopped after a few months and other ones of the appropriate type rotated into play. This way they stay more effective and the chances of dependency are lessened.

It was too strong for me but the doctor also gave me some Ibuprofen which is 400mg. I can take 2 of those for the pain. It just makes me so drowsy but I still feel pain. But the pain really goes away when I take the percocet. I was sitting on granite bench this morning and the cold from the bench went straight into my back.... Ouch. I had to stand:(. I can split the percocet in half so that's what I'll do. It's too strong, I can't function.

JIP listen to John. Look into easing yourself off the meds. What's wrong with your leg. Do you have pins in it? What caused the injury. Maybe you can get a hypnotist. Who knows.
