Perfection Addiction... hair

Hello!

So I did some work on this image with the hair... see the before and after:



I think it turned out pretty well. Only problem is, now the rest of the photos from the set don't look as good and aren't as feasible for fixing... this one's kind of difficult:



Now, I didn't do the absolute best I could do, but it just looks like it won't turn out well :/

What do you think? Put the images in the same set (first one edited, second one not) and the differences are obvious but look realistic, or try to do both?

Also, what do you think of the shots? xD

I like the altered ones, especially the color one. I can relate to the hair thing, as I spend huge amounts of time obsessing over eliminating stray hairs, blemishes, etc.- to the point of hating to do people photos...

fly aways give these types of shot character, especially when back lit.

You did a good job on teh first one, but the second is poor. To be honest, the second shot should be binned.

I like the first, but I think more time should be spent bring out the detail in her face if anything.

If flyaways are distracting, I clone them out, but otherwise I keep them because as Braineack mentioned, they add character and realism.

I also agree that the detail in her face could be improved at this point. At the small size you have them, I would expect her face to be sharp, but instead it is blurry.

The color shot is much better than the B&W shot, which is a binner, as B mentioned. Her face in the color shot seems awfully pallid. I'm not that concerned with flyaway hairs in photos that purport to depict reality. We've entered an era in which there is wayyyyyyyyy too much digital retouching being done.

She's certainly a fair skinned girl and I'm sure the snow gave her a little extra fairness. I might want to experiment with clarity though to get some details in, or lowering the exposure a smidge...

I didn't think the second was a binner but that seems to be the general consensus. Thanks for the feedback!

I am a complete newbie but...
The only thing I notice is when you remove the hair, your also removing the snow falling around her head. It looks a little strange when there is no snow flakes hovering about her head, like there is some invisible force repelling the snow around her. Just doesn't look natural and makes me think something was removed. If there is a way to try and get the falling snow back tighter to her head I think it would look more natural.
But this is coming from someone who attempts to use photoshop and gets so angry they could punch a goat They are beautiful pictures.

Thank you, and I see your point and it is duly noted! I'm glad you think that is real snow I actually shopped that in - why else do you think no snow is falling in front of her? But I'm definitely drawn to the halo around her head now that you point it out - I will take your advice into consideration and add some more snow xD

You should be more concerned about missing focus in the second one.
The flyaway removal is well done, but I agree I'm not sure I see the point. Especially this particular image, flyaways add even more of a desire in me as a viewer to yell out "You know nothing, Jon Snow!"

That's actually just the bad resolution. In full size it's perfectly sharp and in focus.

The edit done in Post #7 looks good on her face and lips--the sharpening you did make the image look much better, and more lifelike. The face and lips on the "snow edit" look soft, but I do like the snow falling effect.

Hair looks okay. Highlights on the face are a bit blown out. You start losing part of her nose in the blown area of her cheek.
