Bought a used 50mm 1.8 from Adorama the other day. Today I got an email that for the next 90 days I have access to a "personal imaging concierge". I confess that I am not great about keeping up with my personal email so maybe this is not something new, maybe I just didn't see the email for previous purchases from them...

Anyway, just thought it was an interesting marketing idea from them.

Meet Abby - Your Personal Imaging Concierge!

Dear Sharon,
My name is Abby and first let me thank you personally for purchasing your Nikon 50mm F/1.8 from Adorama. For the next 90 days I'll be your personal imaging concierge! If you?re anything like us, you are a little obsessed with honing your photography skills. And as your concierge I want to do whatever I can to help you take even better photos.
Feel free to drop me an email at abby-expert@adorama.com and ask me anything you would like to know about your new camera, or about taking better photos in general. I can answer questions like:
  • Why do my indoor photos look orange and how do I fix that?
  • What’s the graph that appears on my camera screen when I preview my images?
  • What kind of lenses and accessories can I use with my camera?
  • What’s the difference between SDHC and SDXC memory cards? And which one is right for me?
  • How do I set up the interval timer in my Nikon to do a time lapse sequence?
Between my expertise and the combined knowledge available in Adorama’s award winning Learning Center, I can get you the answers you need. Best of all, my concierge service is FREE for 90 days, just for being a valued Adorama customer.

Once you familiarize yourself with your new camera, take a look at some of the articles on the Adorama Learning Center. You'll find some great tips and tricks to take your photography to the next level.

Nope, I never heard of such a thing. But come to think of it--I don't know if I've actually purchased a LENS from Adorama. I think I have, but maybe not.

My initial two thoughts:
1. I don't think THAT is the picture I'd include if I were telling people I'm going to help them make their pictures better. I mean, I know someone else likely took it, but still…harsh light, harsh shadows, not exactly the sort of "better photos in general" I'd have in mind if I had a "Personal Imaging Concierge."
2. Another Sharon!! Wow, that makes three that I'm aware of on this forum. That's unusual!

If all you have to do is tell people how to fix their white balance and read a histogram, maybe I should just get a job at adorama. "Personal image concierge" sounds fancy, maybe it'll help pick up women

I have bought only one time from Adorama, but in my limited experience, their customer service is exemplary.

We, Mary Lou and I, are regulars at the Hollywood Bowl. This year a Bowl representative called to help with our purchases for the season. Mary Lou was all excited because she never had a personal buyer before. He was extremely helpful, we saved monies and we got the seats we desired. In this age of competition, I guess those offering a personal service gets a leg up in the marketing game.

As long as the Concierge/Personal Buyer isn't sitting in an office in Nigeria

I knew posting the whole email with that less than great photo that they attached would get some c&c, lol. I have also found the customer service at Adorama to be great. This "personal concierge" could turn out to be a goldmine for them if the concierge is recommending products and earns them a loyal customer. For new, the price and warranty is typically equal at Adorama, B&H and Cameta so how do you choose which to purchase from? I typically go with B&H because once they took a used lens back with no pushback at all even thought it was more than 30 days.

Yes, another Sharon!
