Pet pic help

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to take a pic of your dog when they shake off water? I know you would need a fast shutter speed, but is that all you need to capture movement of water etc? Haven't tried it yet, but thought I'd get tips before I went out...Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

You don't necessarily want too fast a shutter speed or you will just freeze everything and lose all sense of movement. I've never tried this, but I think I would start around 1/125 and work up/down until I get the desired effect.

Did you look at the pictures in the link?

If Billygoat wants to take pictures like those in the link, he does want to stop motion and not imply movement.
You'll probably want to use some flash to help stop the movement.

No problem...now I need to teach the dog to shake on command. That's probably more difficult than the pic...

I'd also recommend shooting at a wider focal length than you think you need, because once that dog starts a' shakin', he's not going to be framed the way you wanted any more. If you shoot wider you can crop it later to get a good composition.

Like this, just as tirediron said 1/125 will work like the one below shot at 1/125

You are probably going to want something around 1/250 or 1/500. Maybe even faster. Depends on how fast the dog shakes really. A fat old basset hound will not shake as fast as a young little chihuahua. lol

I missed the link before, all those are taken with studio flash so are probably only taken at 1/200 unless he has a phase one camera with a leaf shutter lens that will sinc upto 1/1600

This is definitely a unique niche...what breed of dog is it anyway? i have no idea but i found this website. i think i want to take a photo of my toy poodle shaking off water...lol.

Those are hilariously amazing. Or is it amazingly hilarious...

But, yes, as mentioned by the right people... fast shutter speed to freeze the action. There is a good chance that your sync speed is not fast enough for those images so... what was used? A whole lot of continuous lights? Possibly. Animals will not complain about the working conditions, especially wet animals.

On the other hand, use a long lens
