Photo advice needed.

Ive recently started up an internet jewellery business(link below, hopefully)
Thankfully a friend has been taking the pics for me as I have no computer skills or a modern camera to take the pics with.

My first question is-How can I make the pics look better?

My second question is -my friends camera may give up the ghost any second as its quite old,so I think its only fair that I buy him a new one, any suggestions would be appreciated.About £200 budget.
