Personally I can see where you were going with this photo, however where it falls down on is the fact that the part you want to be the primary subject (the butterflies) is rendered out of focus and blurry at the same time. Ignoring composition, the focus needed to be in the right place, on the flowers just isn't working at all since it draws the eye away from the two subjects on the left of the shot; the wings also needed to be crisp since you were playing between the idea of a sharp in focus foreground element and then a background blurred, yet still identifiable subject.

It's a tricky effect to pull off since often you'll get the blur too great or too little on the background feature; doubly tricky when its a living subject that you don't have control of in either foreground or background position.
