Hi everyone, i am new to the forum.

I have recently bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ38, and i'd like to think this is a good camera.

I thought i would try and learn more about what i can do with my camera and also what i can achieve with photography with my camera.

I am interested in taking pictures of animals, i have horses, and therefore would like any tips that you may have for me to take good pictures of horses.

Are there any good tutorials which are focused (excuse the pun), towards animals, horses, etc... to produce the best looking photos?

I am an absolute beginner in terms of what i know in regards to a camera, so please bear that in mind, and feel free to talk to me like a child (hehe).

Thanks very much, and Happy New Year to you all.

Where in the UK are you based ? I shoot loads of horses (my partner has a Connemara) Your camera will be ok for portraits but will not be great for action shots, I'm thinking of setting up a fun meeting in the summer to show people how i shoot horses. there's a few of mine to look at here Sports Portfolio - Gary Clarke's Photos
Best thing to do is shoot some horse shots and come back and show use and we can tell you where your going wrong

Hey Kat--never fear you aren't the only noob on the scene ;-)

Come spring/summer I too will be shooting horses, although not sporting much, mainly herd shots etc. Hopefully we can both share and learn on here.

gsgary-- Love your action shots! Definitely brings out the sport in sport horse.

+1 to Gary's advice - also keep an eye on where you are in relation to the sun - in an ideal world you want the sun behind you and lighting your subject (the horse); to either side and you'll get strong shadows - whilst if its behind your subject you'll either have to fight it with flash (not always ideal with horses) or go for a sillouet type shot.

Also when and where is this plan Gary? I might be interested in attending if I'm in the right part of the country.

I'm not sure yet all depends on work

Hi Gary.

Thanks for the message and reply.

I live about 60 miles from Chesterfield, if that is where you are referring to.

I would love to come to a meeting!
