Hello,

I have many photos on my computer and some of them were not downloaded completely, and as a result they have a big gray patch on them. Is there a tool where I can search my whole hard drive for incomplete photos like this? Thx

?? How could this possibly happen - especially multiple times? Before I could try to help you, I'd like to know what terrible program you were using that only downloaded half of your images, then stopped, while still keeping the temporary file. That doesn't make any sense at all.

I use a program called scrapbook. But I notice that some of the images from the download site are flawed this way also. Maybe 1 out of every 300 or so. So 1 out of 300 wasn't uploaded on their end completely, and therefore gets this gray patch.

My download program also does the same thing occasionally. Sometimes I will notice that the photo is perfect on the download site, but scrapbook won't download the image completely, again creating this gray patch on the photo.

I'm simply looking for a tool that I can use to automatically search folders on my computer for these flawed images (rather than looking for them manually, as this would be too time consuming).

When you say "downloaded" are you talking about a service on the internet such as "flickr.com" or "webshots.com"?

When d/ling, I did not think it was possible to get an incomplete file unless something is really goofy with their code logic. Something on that service could have messed up your picture though.

If you are dowloading from your computer/HD to another media, can you use another program to do it?

Scrapbook is used to download images from any web page. It downloads them automatically, and all at once, and this is why there a small error rate in the download. It is a Firefox add-on, by the way.

All I am wondering is if there is software that I could use on my desktop to search images on my computer that are grayed like this. It would be a simple program because it would search all of the images for one color - a big patch of gray. Thanks for the replies so far.

Well if you are ripping sites with a program like that, and at that speed your going to encounter some issues.

As for a solution? Sorry I don't have one, but then you situation doesn't have to do with photography but downloading others images from the net. Well so I assume, but thats what it sounds like to me.

The term "ripping" has an illegal connotation to it, and I am in no way doing anything illegal. So please do not give me that label. If my question cannot be answered here, I will look elsewhere. Thank you.

You assume that there's a temporary file. All sorts of things can cause this and I have had it happen to me too on occasion using Nikon's own CaptureNX.
