Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I just picked up a copy at Costco...before I open it I wanted to ask those that have used it ...Is this photo-editing software suitable for a Newbie such as myself ?
Thanks

I also want to start uploading pictures to this site ..what site would you recommend for uploading picture ?? Photobucket ??

I just received Elements myself as a gift from one of my family members a few days ago. To answer your question, yes. It's perfect for people who are just getting into post production and want to get their feet wet without spending the $700 for Photoshop CS5. This being said, you'll probably want to uprgade to Photoshop within a year, if you use Elements routinely and have a serious interest in Photography. The whole point of Elements, as I see it, is to give you a taste of the awesomeness of Photoshop, while still lacking features that you will soon desire, such as Paths and more advanced tool options. Basically, it's a hook to get you to buy Photoshop CS5.

GIMP is free and there are plenty of online tutorials, both text and YouTube.

I am a newbie too. I downloaded Photoshop Elements 9 a couple weeks ago and have been kicking myself because I immediately didn't know what to do with it (I have a tendency to start buying things before I need them or know how to use them). But today I finally downloaded pics to it and started playing around with the editing capabilities and it is really cool. For instance, I took some portrait pics at church (I'm helping put a church directory together) and I had the wrong white balance for a couple of shots, they looked all grey/blueish/cold. In Elements I was able to turn the temperature up on them and it improved them 100%. They look great now. I'm sure that's just a basic, elementary function that perhaps other programs can also do, but it looks like it can do a lot more than that. My wife is big into scrapbooking and it looks like it will be nice for that too. So I think it was work the $69.

Got it and don't realy care for it. Everytime i edit raw images it never saves the changes to the raw image. It does have some really nice features for editing. Another issue is the organizer it will not import al my images. I just have had better luck with gimp and teh canon eos utility... Just my 2cents

After having used PaintShop Pro 7 for several years, I recently purchased Elements 9. I've also purchased and browsed Barbara Brundage's "Missing Manual", which I think will be very helpful in lowering the learning curve. I think Elements has plenty of functionality for me, an amateur, and look forward to learning how to use it.

you should try adobe lightroom! perfect in any way!

I use it with Lightroom and love it. Really haven't seen the need to upgrade to the real Photoshop. Between the two programs I can get everything done.

The problem is you don't know how to use it. You don't have the ACR preferences set properly, and your upload issue is likely because you need to update Elements.

It's not supposed to save changes to the Raw image. That is what parametric image editing is all about, leaving the Raw image unchanged.
The Raw edits are stored as XMP metadata so you can edit the same Raw file several different ways and never actually change the original file.

PSE offers online back up, online albums and hosting as part of your purchase. If you back up your RAWs online the space will go fast, I have 2 gb. PSE has been pretty good for me but I don't use it extensively.
