Photoshop vs. something else?

I've been using photoshop for couple years now, a lot longer than I am into photography. I feel quite confident within the aplication and can't image my workflow without it. However I don't think you really must have the complete version of PS to be a good photographer on the same basis you do not need a 1D. But I also don't think Picasa really suits a serious photographer. Don't get me wrong, it is very good software, but it looks more like a program to use with vacation snapshots.

Everyone should decide for himself what he needs, based on his knowledge and skills. I think the two best options are Photoshop and Photoshop Elements - for the ones who don't want to spend their lifes just leaning post processing software.
