I know yall said not to do monochrome or B/W but i love B/W photos and i took this one this morning on my way to work so kinda was in a rush but let me know what you think.
I think this one would be improved by cropping off the blown out sky. It makes it a wider crop, serving two purposes. It kind of works with the lines of the photo better, and removes the tendency for the eye to be drawn to the top of the photo. But, I also agree with SrBiscuit, the train needs to stand out a bit more to be easily recognized as the subject of the photo.
i agree with crimbfighter...a cinematic crop would help to imply more motion...good call CF.
also, i want to retract my statement about the image being out of focus...at second glance, i think the flatness and lack of contrast was fooling my eyes into thinking it was OOF, when in fact it seems to be decently focused.
I suggest applying some color filtering to darken the sky and separate the engine from the building. Also the roofline of the building is not quite level, but not quite at a dramatic angle: tilt and crop.
