So the aperture which controls depth of field won't make that much of a difference? The photo was taken at 1.4, I would like to think that a lot more would be in focus at f/11, f/13 and so on.

It depends on the where the subject is located.

If the subject is only 10 ft away, the Near limit is 5.66 ft and the Far limit is 43 ft even with the aperture set to f/32. So anything outside this range may appeared to be out of focus.

Of course, if the distance between the subject and the camera is longer i.e. 30 feet away from the camera, then the smaller Aperture may work.
