I will be in Japan for about 2 months. I currently have the following:
D50
Nikkor 12-24 f/4
50mm f/1.8
105mm f/2.8

I can afford one of these two, but I am unsure of which one I will find more useful.

24-70mm f/2.8
70-200mm f/2.8

What do you think?

id get the 70-200 f2.8 for sports (every pro has one)
24-70 everyday use
i shoot sports so id get the 70-200

Well, you have a relatively wide lens and with the 50 and 105, you have a pretty good range. The 70-200 would give you some added reach. But then again, 24-70 2.8 is a nice fast everyday lens.

Just curious, are those lenses cheaper in Japan than in the US?

Since the US dollar is currently quite weak compared to the Japanese yen, it might not be as cheap as it used to be a few months ago. Both of the lenses are under USD1890 at the cheapest online vendors here. Used to be less than USD1620 before the US dollar dropped.

Based on the lenses you already own, I'd say you rather need the 70-200mm, but since it's probable to receive an update by the end of next year (due to disappointing FX performance), I'd maybe rather go for the 24-70mm.
