i tried out my nikon d3100 tonight. this was my first time using a dslr. i shot most on the automatic setting. i couldnt take the time to try different settings b/c its cold and im on crutches. also, i really dont have any experience with photoshop. i was wondering if im on the right track with the pp. i really dont know what im doing and i dont completely know what i should be lookin for. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The first one looks better after the editing and I agree that you over did the second one. I notice a lot of people like to bring out the colors in the background and I don't think that it looks good, I think it takes away from the subject.

There is no DOF in these pictures and the background is distracting. Next time try parking further away from the wall and get a bit closer to the car. I don't know if that will do anything though if your shooting in auto

Please accept my critique with a grain of salt. As I am not sure what filter/settings you'd use to accomplish it...

But IMO the glare kills the shot. Get rid of the glare and I bet it would look a lot better...

A Circular Polorizing filter perhaps?

i dont have a filter. theres no tellin what i did haha. i was just shooting in auto on the night setting.

i cant wait to be able to try the manual settings. i just need to be able to have more time to take the pictures b/c i dont even know where to start

Get closer and find a better location. You did pretty good with shooting with crutches though...LOL! I took this of my Firebird when I was using a walker: 69 Firebird 400

Thanks. It's actually a 455, but due to my "condition" (my knees/legs can't bend), I haven't been able to drive it since 2006. :(

Here's how the car looked before and after: 1969 Firebird 400

Many times. Fastest time: 13.09 @ 104.9 MPH, September 16, 1992.

one thing i did try to do was i shot a few in the raw mode. i cant get the raw pictures into photoshop. it says its the wrong file type. anybody know what i need to do for them to work. im using elements 9.

Great shots, but IMO the background is very VERY distracting. also..slap a polarizing filter on your lens (to reduce the glare) and your good!
