I got a letter in the mail today from a website where I entered a contest. I didn't win, necessarily, but they are offering to publish my photo into a coffee book table among other 250 pages of photographs. I told a good friend of mine who also does photography but told me to be careful because something like that happened to him and it was a scam to get him to buy a book he never received.

Has anyone heard anything about the site? It's http://picture.com/

I just don't want to end like he did. :x

and if this isn't the right place, I am sorry. I wasn't sure where to put this.

Yup, everyone who enters the "comp" gets the same letter. The competition seems to be "staged" purely to gain the images to produce the book - YOU subsequently have to buy!!

As for the book, there are debates as to wether they exist or not. Many people have had problems gaining them after payment.

That website looks awfully sketchy. They might try to jack the rights from you as well.

I think that others have mentioned fake competitions from picture.com

I would also be skeptical of sites where about half the page is ads for other companies.
