Pictures In A Park

Hey Guys,

Somebody wants me to take pictures during a party in public park. As far as as you guys know, are there any kind of permits that need to be secured to do this? I would be setting up a backdrop stand and one or two monolights. I'd also be roaming around and taking shots that way.

My thought is that I wouldn't need a permit for this. Why is this different than setting up a barbecue grill or a volleyball net or something similar? I have zero idea so I figured I'd post the question here.

As long as its public property I dont think there is a problem, however check with the public works department at your town hall if you are concerned

You can call the parks and recreation dept in that city for info.

Usually nothing is said unless they think that a pro is using the park and then they want a fee. So unless you are using a set of lights or more than one reflector you could just claim to be a hobbyist.

May depend on what you are going to do with the images you capture, particular the "roaming" ones. If, in your roaming, you happen to capture others in your image that are not part of the party, any commercial use of the images may require a model release - don't know if that is the case here, but you never know. I would agree with Mike_E - check with the powers that be and see - you never know what kinds of rules and regs you might run up against.
